# SMBMap (SMB Tool)

SMB share permission review, recursive listing, file discovery, and file download with SMBMap.

> SMBMap is a useful tool for interacting with SMB shares and evaluating the permissions and content of available files. It allows you to list files, explore directories, search for specific files and download files of interest. Here are some commonly used commands:

### List files with a null session

To list files available on an SMB host without authentication:

```bash
smbmap -H <ip> -u 'null'
smbmap -H <ip> -u none
```

### List permissions

To get an overview of permissions on a host:

```bash
smbmap -H <ip>
```

### Search for specific files

To explore directories and search for specific files:

```bash
smbmap -H <ip> -r <directory>
```

<figure><img src="https://131707722-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fl4EVJpcOrsgjSGsLI7p2%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-cc495e0b897c906a053ecf559dd550fcbda5091b%2Fimage%20(1647).png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Download files

To download relevant files, such as `Groups.xml`, which may contain sensitive information:

```bash
smbmap -H <ip> --download <path_to_file>/Groups.xml
```

```bash
smbmap -H 10.10.10.100 --download Replication/active.htb/Policies/{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}/MACHINE/Preferences/Groups/Groups.xml
```

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://hacking-notes.jord4n.pro/ports-and-services/smb-445/smbmap-smb-tool.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
